Description
1925-S $20 AU58 NGC Saint Gaudens Double Eagle

The 1925-S Twenty dollar gold double eagle is part of a series of Saint Gaudens gold double eagle coins struck from 1908-1933. Struck in San Francisco and designated as a Business (MS) strike, this coin is made of 90% gold; 10% copper from a mintage of 3,776,500 struck.

A major rarity, the 1925-S Saint is about as common in circulated grades as uncirculated, though examples grading MS64 or better are exceptional rarities. A few are known in grades of MS65 and at least one in each MS67 and MS68. All Gems are six-figure coins, though any 1925-S $20 regardless of grades commands significant premiums and are highly sought by all dedicated Saint-Gaudens enthusiasts.

Obverse: Liberty is portrayed standing on a rock, holding a torch in her right hand and an olive branch in her left. The word LIBERTY appears on the top periphery surrounded by stars. The date is stamped on the right side of the coin, just above the rock.

Reverse: A crescent sun appears at the bottom as if rising on the horizon with long rays extending to the top of the coin. A flying eagle covers the central portion, atop the rays. The words UNITED STATES oF AMERICA, TWENTY DOLLARS appear on the top periphery.
