Description

1925-D $20 MS62 PCGS Saint Gaudens Double Eagle

The 1925-D Twenty dollar gold double eagle is part of a series of Saint Gaudens gold double eagle coins struck from 1908-1933. Struck in Denver and designated as a Business (MS) strike, this coin is made of 90% gold; 10% copper from a mintage of 2,938,500 struck.

The 1925-D Saint-Gaudens is a real rarity, with fewer than 1,000 specimens estimated to exist. While most survivors are in uncirculated grades, just a tiny handful are MS65 or better. The handful of MS65s are all worth solid five-figure prices while the few MS66s realize six-figure hammer prices. While this coin is rare in all grades, those known in the MS range feature decent strike, luster, and color.

Obverse: Liberty is portrayed standing on a rock, holding a torch in her right hand and an olive branch in her left. The word LIBERTY appears on the top periphery surrounded by stars. The date is stamped on the right side of the coin, just above the rock.

Reverse: A crescent sun appears at the bottom as if rising on the horizon with long rays extending to the top of the coin. A flying eagle covers the central portion, atop the rays. The words UNITED STATES oF AMERICA, TWENTY DOLLARS appear on the top periphery.
