Description
1907 $20 MS65 PCGS Saint Gaudens Gold Double Eagle OGH

The 1907 Twenty dollar gold double eagle is part of a series of Saint Gaudens gold double eagle coins struck from 1907-1908. The specific variety is Saint Gaudens. Struck in Philadelphia and designated as a Business (MS) strike, this coin is made of 90% gold; 10% copper from a mintage of 361,667 struck.

While the 1907 Saint-Gaudens with the flatter design may not be nearly as scarce as its high-relief cousins, but it is nevertheless a very popular coin as a first-year type. And, thankfully for those who wish to buy examples of the 1907 Saints today, these pieces were saved in huge numbers from the get-go. Examples grading lower than MS65 are quite common and readily available in the marketplace, with circulated examples roughly tied to the prevailing spot price. Gems are somewhat scarcer, but they are available for a price.

Obverse: Liberty is portrayed standing on a rock, holding a torch in her right hand and an olive branch in her left. The word LIBERTY appears on the top periphery surrounded by stars. The date is stamped on the right side of the coin, just above the rock.

Reverse: A crescent sun appears at the bottom as if rising on the horizon with long rays extending to the top of the coin. A flying eagle covers the central portion, atop the rays. The words UNITED STATES oF AMERICA, TWENTY DOLLARS appear on the top periphery.
