The 1864 $20 Gold is part of a series of Liberty head gold double eagle coins struck from 1849-1907. Struck in Philadelphia and designated as a Business (MS) strike, this coin is made of 90% gold; 10% copper from a mintage of 204,235 struck.

Obverse: Christian Gobrecht's portrait of Liberty is surrounded by 13 stars with the date centered at the bottom.

Reverse: Shielded eagle with wings outstretched holding arrows and olive branches. The words UNITED STATES OF AMERICA * TWENTY D. appear around the periphery. Mint mark, if any, appears below the eagle's tail, above the N in TWENTY.
